LONDON - KIEV - MILAN

Kiev are cooking up a bid for Shev.

[Express.co.uk] Dinamo Kiev are plotting a cheeky January bid to rescue Andriy Shevchenko from his Chelsea nightmare and take him back to the club where he made his name. The Ukraine club are also seeking a big-name coach to succeed Anatoly Demyanenko, who quit last month after the Champions League defeat by Roma, and among those in line are former Liverpool chief Gerard Houllier, Bayern Munich boss Ottmar Hitzfeld and Alberto Zaccheroni, who was the coach at AC Milan when Shevchenko arrived. Kiev have made Shevchenko’s advisers aware of their interest, but despite the Chelsea star’s unhappiness at Stamford Bridge, he is unlikely to go just yet. Despite the lure of playing alongside his old buddy Sergei Rebrov again, Shevchenko would have to take a massive drop in wages from the £6million a year he earns in England, to around £2.5m. But Shevchenko has not seen his opportunities get any better under new Chelsea coach Avram Grant. He was an unused substitute in the Champions League win in Valencia last week, and at Bolton on Saturday played only the last 17 minutes. A source close to Shevchenko said last night: «Andriy is aware of Dinamo’s interest. The club have said several times that they would like to take him back». Shevchenko won five league titles with Dinamo before moving on to further glory at AC Milan in 1999.

Sheva saluta?
