SHEVA (& PIPPO) ON 60!

Milestone of 60th-goal for striker Andriy Shevchenko.

Andriy Shevchenko saved the blues for Chelsea with his equaliser in a frustrating 1-1 home draw with Rosenborg at Stamford Bridge. The 31-year-old striker, a £30 million ($90m) buy from Italian giants AC Milan in May 2006, had been criticised for scoring only 14 goals in 52 appearances for the Blues. But he repaid some of that fee with a face-saving second-half header goal. At one point, Shevchenko was so downhearted that he almost opted to make a sensational return to Ukraine after his former club Dynamo Kiev wanted to take him on loan. Now, Shevchenko knows he's on the right track after hitting the special 60-mark. At the San Siro, Filippo Inzaghi - a former Milan team-mate of Shevchenko - also made the milestone with the second goal in Milan's 2-1 win over Benfica. The duo are only two goals short of the 62-goal record of former West German striker Gerd Mueller in the European scoring charts.

MOURINHO STILL WON'T GIVE SHEVCHENKO A BREAK
Can’t we all just get along?

19/09/07 - We’re in a real goal-scoring pickle at the moment and Sheva’s goal was the only thing that prevented total humiliation.

So why did Mourinho still refuse to give him a little praise when asked about the Ukrainian’s contribution? He told Tribalfootball: “My team didn't win and Sheva is part of my team, so I have nothing to say about him. Nothing special.”

We’ve received countless comments on Chelsea Pies telling Mour to lay off and we’d have to agree with them all. I argued that the gaffer wasn’t stupid but his actions are seriously testing that theory. All these thinly veiled swipes are pointless. We know he didn’t want Shevcheko but he’s stuck with him and surely it would make more sense to pull together at a time like this rather than cause unrest.

With Drogba and Lampard absent, Sheva needs confidence to help the team pull through. I didn’t expect to be saying this but, “Jose, please give Shevchenko a break!”
